For low-light and high-wind situations my normal Prestige set was difficult to handle - so I also got a Radical Oversize to which I added lead tape until it became very close to a (non-existent) Prestige Oversize. Given the large surface and the very high humidity I started with Big Banger Original at a low tension - and the results were VERY good for those conditions!
Part of the very good results is that on Big Banger Original I was always guessing a lot better the ideal tension - which is VERY low compared to most other strings - 10% under normal strings, maybe even 20% lower than natural gut.
Right now I would dare saying that Big Banger Original is the best string FOR THE MONEY from Luxilon - pretty much all other Luxilon strings are (much) more expensive without providing a lot of benefits for non-professional players. |

| I never managed to feel very happy with normal Alu Power (and on Alu Power Rough I got my worst arm injury) but for me Big Banger Original has always worked very well (but I have to admit I was always using a lower tension on Big Banger Original). |

Tested both on the Babolat Pure Storm GT as well as on the Tecnifibre T-Fight 320 VO2 Max.
Best feature of this great string is the excellent control which the Alu Power is well known for.
However I had expected better durability than 5.5 hours.
During this period, the BBO performed great in all aspects.
I did not have any arm problems - feedback was very solid on clean hits, and spin potential was good despite the 1.30 mm gauge.
Power was not too low at all, but control was still the major characteristic.
Overall a really great control string, whose market price has been adapted in the meantime. |

Strung on a drop weight machine. The string felt stiff and weaving the crosses wasn't a joy. Otherwise no problems. Very little stretch.
Very good power with little effort and still good control, both depth and angles. Great feedback from the impact. Not much difference between center and off-center hits in terms of power, also increasing the control.
Among the polys that I've tested so far, this one is among the top in terms of feel. It allows for the full spectrum from touchy shots to powerful shots.
After reading a lot of negative comments about this string's comfort, I was very happy with the comfort. No vibrations, no shock. I didn't use a dampener.
Good spin potential on all strokes, supporting control.
There was no string movement - I mean you can hear the strings move during the impact but they seem to snap back immediately.
While the initial tension of 25/24 kg was a bit too high, the string had softened up a bit after 5 hours and that level was kept for approx. 25 hours of play.
I'll keep playing with this string to see when it goes dead or breaks. I guess I'll cut it out before it breaks. So durability is great!
Conclusion:
- Great overall characteristics
- Unique string compared to others I have tested - the high price is justified
- My new favorite |
